Chapter 3-How to Sharpen and Smarten Your Baby or Toddler’s Mind

Part 2: Don’t Rely on What Tian Relied On Â

Â
I was reading a story of a Singaporean woman I will call Tian. She had a daughter, whom I will call Xin. Her daughter was six years old but could not read any words. She could only recite the alphabet. She was unable to do basic maths, such as adding simple numbers. Â

This is the beginning of potential future poor grades and Xin falling behind. She was in K2 (Kindergarten in the USA), in childcare, and was just about to start Primary 1 (Grade 1 USA).  In Singapore, children start primary school in Primary 1, the equivalent of Grade 1 in the USA. Before that, they send their children to institutions called childcare or kindergartens. These institutions do teach children some things. The problem is that Tian relied on the institution to teach her child.Â

In many countries, nurseries, childcare or daycare don’t teach children much math or reading, if at all. Singapore is a country that does some teaching at the preschool stage. But, you cannot rely on an institution to sharpen and smarten your child’s brain, even in a country like Singapore. This was the mistake Tian made. It wasn’t her fault; she was busy at work and it is very easy to rely on an institution when you are in that situation.Â

An institution, even where they teach your child at the preschool stage, will not sharpen your child’s mind in the way that I am sharing in this e-book. Remember Wei and Nate. Wei took responsibility for Nate. She did not rely on an institution. Tian did, and you know the results she got.Â
Now, if you start a journey and don’t know the exact destination you need to reach, you are unlikely to get there. When you begin teaching your child, you need to know the destination they need to get to by school age. If you don’t know, then there is a strong chance you may fail. Next, I share the one goal your child must reach by school age.  Â
